‘Huma Qureshi Chef-in-Charge
Welcome to my blog. I am an engineer by day and I cook few evenings or weekends depending on what is going on in life, so don’t expect daily updates.
I come from a family of women who put my cooking to shame and frankly as the youngest there were always mom, mother-in-law, sister, sisters-in-law around who did a much finer job so there was never really a reason to learn to cook. So I learned by trial and error. To this day my family still doesn’t actually believe I can now cook, considering that mom still reshapes my kababs. That establishes that I am not a cooking expert, but I love to food and any time I eat something I like I ask for the recipe and then I play around with it until I think I got it right. My boys are my biggest critic and I do get to hear a lot of “on a scale of 1-10, this is an X” and to date they have never given me a 10 so you be the judge.
It’s hard to define my cooking style because, well it’s really a little bit of everything. My family is from Dehli, India but I was born in Karachi so you would consider that my style should be north Indian cuisine but I have lived in Norcal since College days and with the diversity of food around us, it reflects in my cooking. Best description would be desi fusion cooking but I do like to learn and cook traditional foods, so it will be a little bit of this and a little bit of that. And before I learned to cook, I baked so there are bound to be some baking recipes intermingled.
And I can only cook from a recipe, a pinch of this and a pinch of that doesn’t work well for me. Therefore, I do love the precision of recipes, so if you find something that is vague and not crystal clear then give me a shout out so I can fix it, I would truly be grateful.
